The annual Black History Month Assembly is truly one of the highlights of the academic year at John Handley High School.
We were proud to attend this year’s celebratory event, which is completely organized by the members of the Black Student Union.
This year’s assembly included the singing of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” which is also known as the Black National Anthem, in addition to dance numbers, video presentations, poetry, and spoken word. The student performers are to be praised for what was an exceptional, eye-opening hour.

Winchester Education Foundation Director Marie Imoh was present to honor two outstanding students with the 2026 Winchester Education Foundation Black History Month Award. These financial awards are presented to acknowledge John Handley High School students of African American heritage and invest in their future with the support of local donors who have the same desire and mission.
Please congratulate our 2026 winners:
Both of these students represent the best of our Winchester Public Schools.
