Patsy Cline Theatre

Campaign Priorities

Throughout its history, the Patsy Cline Theater at John Handley High School has stood as Winchester’s community theater. Far more than just a high school auditorium, this theater has served as a cultural hub, hosting annual Apple Blossom festivities that have entertained audiences from across the entire Shenandoah Valley. The Patsy Cline Theater has also welcomed renowned entertainers such as Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, the Beach Boys, Ronnie Milsap, and many others, all of whom have thrilled local audiences from its stage.

Creating Comfort

The theater’s seats, having served generations of students and countless audience members, have been subjected to extensive use over four decades. This wear and tear has left the seats uncomfortable, less visually appealing, and, in some cases, no longer functional. By supporting the Patsy Cline Theater campaign, donors will help Winchester Public Schools update the theater with brand new seating and new, appropriate carpeting, ensuring a more comfortable and inviting environment for everyone who visits the Patsy Cline Theater, whether they are attending a school or community event.

Inspiring the Arts

The drama and choral programs at John Handley High School are integral components of the school’s curriculum. Numerous students have launched their artistic careers on the Patsy Cline Theater stage before advancing their education and entering

professional fields. Noted national performances have graced our stage. Our dedicated arts students and visiting guest performers merit facilities of the same high standard afforded to our student athletes. Contributions to the Patsy Cline Theater campaign will help provide a premier theater experience for our entire Winchester community.

Honoring Our Legacies

The Patsy Cline Theater campaign offers various opportunities for donors to honor the school's legacy as we modernize the theater for future generations. Individual seats, or rows of seats, may be purchased and named in recognition of a family member,

esteemed teacher, or student. Donors may also choose to commemorate the late Senator Russ Potts by contributing in his name; these funds will be designated for renaming the theater balcony as the “Russ Potts Balcony.”

Additionally, the Foundation welcomes discussions regarding further naming options for

the theater lobby and other spaces within the facility.
